The roadshow visits Thirlestane Castle in the Scottish Borders, where treasures include an art nouveau claret jug, a life-size leather tiger and an ice axe signed by famous mountaineers. Marc Allum is thrilled to discover some letters sent from a post office in Antarctica, while Adam Schoon hopes to solve a family mystery concerning a riding spur found on a building site. Paul Atterbury welcomes two roadshow fans all the way from Canada, while Raj Bisram gets to meet a contributor who last visited the roadshow as a boy with his rare Queen Live LP. Ronnie Archer-Morgan is intrigued to see some intricately carved wooden tribal paddles from French Polynesia, and Mark Smith hears the poignant story of a World War II pilot who flew several daring missions in which 27 of his fellow airmen perished. There are some surprising charity shop finds too. Susan Rumfitt is amazed by a diamond-and-sapphire brooch bought for £2.50, and Gordon Foster is dazzled by an arts and crafts silver bowl bought for £6. Fiona Bruce looks into the short but stellar career of Scottish racing legend Jim Clark and gets to see some of his personal items and trophies. She also explores a curious local tradition called Hand Ba' - a rough-and-tumble street game played between "uppies" and "doonies" using balls filled with hay and moss.
