It is the UK’s fastest declining mammal and The Highlands is a stronghold. Across the UK water voles usually live by gentle rivers but in the highlands they negotiate a more challenging landscape.

Picture Shows: Kirindy Forest chameleon, Madagascar. This fully grown female, the length of a human finger, is using a thin vine to travel from one branch to another. Chameleons have unique pincer-like feet, specially adapted for gripping branches. Their five toes can spread 180 degrees, with two pointing in one direction and three in the other.
